Christ First Baptist is an American Baptist Church. We are part of the Pacific Southwest Region. The following acronym helps explain what we believe.
B – BELIEF IN THE SCRIPTURES AS OUR SUPREME GUIDE IN WHAT WE BELIEVE AND HOW WE LIVE. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that all God's people may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
A – ACCEPTANCE OF JESUS CHRIST AS PERSONAL LORD AND SAVIOR PRECEDES CHURCH MEMBERSHIP. Acts 2:41 Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.
P – PRIESTHOOD OF ALL BELIEVERS AS THE PRIVILEGE OF DIRECT ACCESS TO GOD WITHOUT PRIESTS OR CHURCH. Hebrews 4:14-16 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. 16 Let us then approach God's throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
T – TWO ORDINANCES GIVEN BY JESUS CHRIST; BAPTISM AND COMMUNION, TO BE OBSERVED AND PRACTICED BY BELIEVERS Matthew 28:19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
1 Corinthians 11:23-26 For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, 24 and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, "This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me." 25 In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me." 26 For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes.
I – INDIVIDUAL FREEDOM TO WORSHIP GOD AND INTERPRET HIS WORD AS HOLY SPIRIT DICTATES. John 8:32, 36 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
S – SERVANTS IN JESUS CHRIST AS REPRESENTED IN NEW TESTAMENT CHURCH, COMING TOGETHER FOR WORSHIP, STUDY, FELLOWSHIP AND SERVICE. Acts 2:42 They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.
T – TRIUMPHANT VISIBLE SECOND COMING OF JESUS CHRIST AS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF ALL BELIEVERS TO LIVE HOLY LIVES IN DAILY EXPECTATION OF THIS EVENT. Titus 2:12-13 It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, 13 while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ.
S –SELF-GOVERNMENT OF EACH LOCAL CHURCH IN MATTERS OF OPERATION AS SHOWN BY THE EARLY CHURCH SENDING ITS OWN MINISTERS AND MISSIONARIES. Acts 13:2-3 While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, "Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them." 3 So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off.
